Gajula Komurayya is a jovial elderly inhabitant of a village in Telangana. He lives with his elder son Ailayya, the latter’s wife Swaroopa, and their son Sayilu. Unbeknownst to his short-tempered father, Sayilu owes a massive sum of money to a cruel moneylender. He reassures the moneylender that he will pay off the loan once he receives dowry from his fiancee’s family.
However, Sayilu’s fiancee’s family refuses to give him dowry, and he is forced to find other ways to pay off his debt. He begins to manipulate those around him, including his family and friends. However, he soon realizes the folly of his greed, and he tries to make amends.
Balagam has been a critical success, with many critics praising the film’s sensitive handling of the subject matter, strong performances, and engaging screenplay.
